It was only a non event because of the planning that went into place. We did have to change/update several critical business systems or they would have broke. I spent a good chunk of the 2000s in the financial sector, it was a real issue that went on for some time.
I was changing out motherboards in Business phone systems like crazy in 99. Crazy times.

Sorry if you've explained this but why do they have shutdown weeks? Is it because they don't have enough supply to continue building continuously?
If a plant cannot get enough parts to run efficiently, then an OEM will occasionally shut down for a brief period, because it’s often more cost efficient to absorb the UAW-negotiated 75% labor rates during a brief shutdown than to incur time-&-a-half labor rates (150%) for overtime work later.

That's what 'ETA' means, it's a rough estimate. I never said they know what is going to be delivered in the future, but they better know what has been delivered in the past. You take the floor (aka the bottom of a given time slice) of what has been delivered in the past up til now (so a sliding window), use that to project to the future, and build a data model to ' conservatively estimate' what quarter (or even half year) orders will be fulfilled within.
Historical data doesn't work under uncertainty environments.

Forecast anything under unprecedented situations is a lot more complex that you can imagine.

For example, can you forecast when are you going to be able to get your Bronco? no, because of the uncertainty information from Ford. It's a chain reaction that finish on you and if you go upwards, you will see the same effect on each step

As a mom who's had a kid at band camp, I think you deserve a break my friend. Marching season is upon you and you're gonna need it! Thank you for the work you do with the kids, my son's marching instructors are amazing!

Ford hasn't built any significant dealer stock yet other than mannequins.
Are you sure? There appear to be 4 on the way to Greenwood Ford in Hollister CA. I can't see the sticker to be sure it's not inappropriately posted orders but....
