We ordered our 2023 4dr back in October of ‘21. Found out we were having our first kid that December. Took delivery of the bronco in April ‘22. Took delivery of baby #1 in July.

We spec’d it out to get it as fast as possible. Base, soft top, no options other than the 2.7. And we’ve enjoyed it ever since. I had stockpiled a small list of parts that I planned to get on ASAP, but with the new baby it wasn’t the priority. We put 21,000 miles on it and had nothing but great times driving it. The only hassle was it was a little cramped. But we knew it wasn’t meant to be spacious, just with a car seat in the back and me being 6’5” it was what it was.

We found out a couple months ago that baby #2 is on the way and we are super excited for my daughter to have a sibling. But my wife and I both knew trading in the bronco for something with more room and more practical as a family car was likely going to happen.

This passed weekend, we ended up going to a ford/Kia dealership and seeing what they would give us on trade to get into a Kia Telluride or Ford explorer. They only offered us $32k so we walked. Salesman told us to try and sell private. Kind of felt like they just wanted to low ball us and see if we bit but they didn’t want to put in the work to get us into something so we walked. We saw Aaron Ford of Poway was having some specials on their Ford Explorer XLT so we headed up there. After a long day of back n forth and their system making some errors, they offered us $42k. We were happy with that took the deal and got our Explorer XLT.

Bummed we never got to see the bronco with all the parts I have for it. But family takes the priority. I still have a ‘95 bronco that will continue to get love and I don’t plan on getting rid of that for sure. I’m going to try and get the parts I have posted up for sale on here later this week, but for now I’ll list what I have and see if there’s any interest in advance. I’ll post prices when I get the ads up. Everything located in SoCal/San Diego area. Thanks for reading everyone.

You got $42K trade? What was sticker on it? (not counting the mods/accessories).

Yep. I paid $40k and some change out the door for it. Made it a little easier to accept getting rid of her lol.
Ah ok. I paid like $60 for my BL in July '23 (sticker). Not that I'd expect that in trade, but if offered $42 in my case i'd laugh and walk away.

Til you can't fit 2 baby seats in the bronco?? That's surprising.
We have the car seat behind the passenger seat right now and I fit okay. My knees rub the dash but it’s tolerable. Having one behind the driver seat when I drove wouldn’t be comfortable at all. For shorter people it would’ve been fine. My wife is 5’3” and would’ve probably been okay but not for me.

You can. But... Every year the damn things seem to get bigger and bigger. I had no problems fitting one in my Mustang, and the Bronco has a lot more room than a 'Stang.

What I don't understand is the idea that an Explorer somehow has more room than a Bronco. My Dad has a new Explorer, and it certainly is NOT larger than the Bronco inside. Mostly it just has horrible visibility. Scares me silly in a parking lot.

If the OP had bought an Expedition that would make sense. We had a series of those when the kids were small, and they were great.

Did he get one with the 2nd row captains chairs or the bench? We have the captains chairs and there’s a ton more room. And coming from the bronco, it has way better visibility for me. I’m totally bummed we had to get rid of it. But so far, it’s made sense for us in just about every way other than less smiles per gallon.

Third row lays flat giving us way more room for stuff with a stroller in the back also. Which will also be getting bigger. The captains chairs gives more floor space to pack in more if we are going somewhere. Better mpg. Lower payment. No temptation to continue to throw more and more money into it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've got two car seats in the back, even have the rear facing seat on the driver side. At 6ft even I am about at the limit of where I'd like to have the seat and still be comfortable. I could see if I were a few inches taller it wouldn't be very comfortable.

I agree with the OP. Get what you want and what makes most sense for what you want. Both my kids grow up in the back seats of Mustangs and Camaros so yes it can be done but that’s what I wanted and could afford at the time. Bronco’s were also only 2 door at the time as well. As were most cars that I wanted to drive so there was that. Also, the kid seats were way simpler and less safe too. But they survived.

OP - Congrats on baby #2, and the new XLT. I have a 2013 XLT still, but am fixing it up a bit to sell it, now that I am comfortable in the Bronco.

I have 3 car seats in a Wildtrak, and I'm 6' tall, with the rear facing seat with a 2yo behind me. The angle of the rear bench seat makes the car seat sit more vertically but, still within the level of a correct installation. Sucks to get the kid in there, but works.

It's totally doable for multiple kids, but the rear cargo space, and the 3rd row of the Explorer totally makes sense for the swap. Sad to lose a Bronco owner OP, but if it works for you, that is all that matters.

Yep it was a pain getting her in and out with how reclined the bottom of the seats are in the back. It would’ve been extremely hard for my wife to get her in once we put the lift and tires on we had planned to.

Still have the ‘95 so technically I’m still a bronco owner haha.
