A) you proved my point with response B. If 10k have liked it how many people do you think have actually seen?
B) how did you know I was your dad?
I'm going to leave that last one alone as I'd like to keep my current account, dad.

Explain to me exactly the scenario you guys are depicting.

You're assuming that someone is:
Breaking into a locked vehicle
Alarm is blaring
they immediately run back to open the tailgate or to jump through the 2nd row seating like a fish upstream looking for that one spot in the hopes it's been modified and it rips open without ripping your fingernails off after discovering it's not modified.
and this is assuming....... the thief thinks he left the fob in there.....

Is that what you guys are saying?

You guys are funny about him posting what he may or may not do with this and what it is.
A.) there's already marketed products for this
B.) unless you're a Bronco owner/future owner, on this forum, and go the extra mile to implement this, you're not even going to have a hint this is something anyone is doing, if at all.
Bronco6g is social media with 10K InstaGram likes on this particular thread?
That's a reach. It's an online forum.
C.) Thanks for the advice dad.
Not debating one way or another, but there's a lot more people on this forum than members who registered. From just a moment ago.... Total: 3,667 (members: 772, guests: 2,895)
That's a 4:1 ratio at 10AM on a forum with 50K members, one can do some rough extrapolating to see how many unique visitors the site gets, then estimate from that number how many of them might have criminal intent. There's a good chance at least a handful are getting familiar with or looking for ways to steal a Bronco/steal from one. Professional thieves are always lurking around car forums looking for security weaknesses and habits, and once something looks promising, it will be exploited. It's virtually guaranteed that someone is going to rip that vent cover off at some point in time on an open top Bronco trying to exploit this hiding spot due to either one of these posts or the M2M product bringing it out into public view. Your chances are statistically extremely low, to the point where you shouldn't worry about it, but those chances are not zero.

I understand that, and lets just put this to rest. What exactly would potential thieves be looking for? "The Ford Bronco also has a hidden compartment in the tail gate/rear door...."....????

GUESS WHAT! (not directed toward anyone, just in general) There is NO HIDDEN COMPARTMENT IN THE REAR! Unless it's.... MODIFIEDDDDD!

You know what else we could do? We could hide kilos of cocaine in all 4 tires BUT!!!! I bet thieves won't be looking for cocaine wrapped and stuffed in our tires in the parking lot either, so....

negligence that has the potential to harm and kill
So is texting and driving, so is driving above the posted speed limit.

What exactly is negligent? What state do you live in? What are your state's laws on gun transportation there, Sparky?

Guess what!? Some states DO... and some states DON'T, require you to have your weapon stored, loaded or unloaded, in a separate compartment outside of your reach while transporting and in many cases include or exclude what county you're in.....

This is why I got the key pad. Everything is locked. When I’m biking or at beach or any place I don’t want pockets full of crap everything is Locked up inside.
But you still need a Faraday bag to put the key into, otherwise if you just stash the key inside the Bronco, if they bust a window to get in, all they have to do is push the start button and away they go since presumably the key will be inside the cabin.

That is a serious Bronco tax on that thing. Cool, but pretty spendy.

Have a 12 gauge Simplex lock box cabled to the driver's seat. I put my key (in a Faraday bag) in there.

The ironic part is that I am usually CC'ing when I do this, so not exactly saving weight. The lock box is for my CC firearm when I am going someplace where I can't have it with me, but there is enough space in mine for both the CC piece and the key :)

You're probably okay. Was that a barrel lock I saw? Two levels of lock: the doors, electronically, and a trigger or muzzle lock should be evidence of due diligence in most states.

A thought: be alert to anybody observing you as you secrete or retrieve your items there, especially if they're 1) watching you overtly 2) behaving suspiciously, and especially 3) approaching you. After entering your code, consider walking clockwise (the long way) around the truck, checking for potential trouble-makers. My fear is that a bad party might see me put my valuables there, then wait for my return.
Definitely not sufficient for NY.

I'll bite. Where do you suggest we store our 2A items in our Broncos? Clearly you're sitting on a much better solution. Please share.

here is how I store mine when I have to leave it in the Bronco

Simplex locks are the best. All I am trying to do is make it take too long for a would be thief. It they have tons of time it doesn’t matter what it is, they will figure out how to remove it from the vehicle.

I can open/close this in the dark in 3 seconds. Doesn’t need a key or worry about batteries dying. And fits under the seat out of sight.

I put my key in a faraday bag and then drop it into a dog poo disposal bag. Tie it up, leave it on the passenger seat.

That probably won't work for the gun.

I guess I'm different and missing something in all of this. A lot of workout wear have zippered pockets. I don't think a key fob would be too intrusive. Water sports people usually have a dry bag for phones and other electronics. So why not just keep the key fob on you? Do people head out without their phones? Or do they find a way to carry them?

As far as the Bronco getting stolen then I have insurance. I also carry homeowners and life.

I just retired after 26 years as a police officer. I don't take a gun with me at all. I don't even have one loaded in my home.

I can't relate to the thinking that we need to lock it all down and worry about being a victim. You want my Bronco? The garage man door is unlocked. The keys are in it. Push the illuminated garage door opener. Open her up and drive away. If I'm sleeping I probably won't hear it because I sleep with a loud fan to wash out sounds. I worked the midnight shift for too many years.

I have great homeowners/auto. I have the Ford pass. I'll get the vehicle back and insurance takes care of any damages.

I already had the Pelican for paddleboarding and kayaking so that's no issue. However, I'm a distance runner and definitely not carrying my phone and even a key fob can get uncomfortable after 20 miles. As far as theft goes, I'm pretty sure everyone has insurance but for me I don't want to have to do all the upgrades on a new Bronco again. The DIY PPF was NOT my thing. I'd rather never do that again 😂
