Had it maybe 5-6 years. Didn’t ride it a whole lot (I had a bunch of bikes), but the one time I decided to take it to a track day, some guy high-sided on the first lap out of the pits and his bike cartwheeled right into my right side. I somehow kept it on two wheels, but it destroyed my fairing, crushed the battery (which caused battery acid to splash all over various parts of the bike), and folded the radiator in half.

By the time I got around to fixing all that, the 998 came out, so I bought one and ended up selling the 996 after it was mostly fixed.

Can’t tell you too much about it, but some of my biggest recollections about the whole 916 series were that the coolant reservoir tanks behind the steering head tended to split in half, so you might want to look into an aluminum one from Motowheels... And the submerged fuel pumps do NOT get along with any kind of ethanol, so keep an eye on those components. The fuel lines in the tank will turn to jelly. Otherwise, keep your timing belts fresh and your valves adjusted…
