That looks good. Did you have to do anything special with regards to the paint and flexibility when applied to plastic?

I've only done a limited amount of automotive DIY paint. Some on my FJCruiser and the plastic adhesion promotor and keeping things clean gave me plastic parts that lasted for 8 years that looked as good as new.

I decided that before going doin the route of having one of my body shops paint the flares I’d give it a go DIY style to see how it would come out. This entire project was done using nothing but aerosol cans you can get and any local paint store. Is it absolutely perfect? No. But for $90 and a night of my time it’s pretty dang good.

First step was to clean up the flares and then hit them with 400 grit to knock down some of the plastic and hit it with degreaser. (Forgot to take a photo at this stage)

After this i hit the flares with adhesion promoter and some high build primer. Once the primer dried i sanded it back with 220 grit to get as much of a smooth surface as possible.

Next i sprayed down a grey primer as that’s what the cactus grey base coat called for.

Then came the cactus grey base coat i did 4 coats to try and get it as even as possible.

Finally i did 1 light coat and 3 heavy wet coats of 2k glamour clear coat.

Here is one flare mocked up on the car but it’s not dry enough to install just wanted to see how it looked

I will wet sand and buff and polish them tomorrow then update with photos of them installed!
Beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work!

Looks great; well done!

I prefer the non-painted flares as they are, but prefer the painted ones on the Raptor Bronco.

You do nice work! Several people have asked where to get aerosol cans of paint. In the Charleston, SC area, Parks Auto Finishes, one of the Parks Auto Parts stores, mixes aerosol cans of matching auto paint. I bought a can of Area-51 to paint some accessories for my Bronco. The paint code is on your door sticker. Price: $26.11 with tax. 843.747.4151. 1950 Remount Rd, N. Charleston, SC

Curiously, Parks was recommended by the parts department at the local Ford dealer, who said that Ford would provide them with touch-up paint to sell, but not spray cans.

I color matched all handles, flares and the mirrors. Looks way better then the black. Also if you add side steps then you don't have to worry about haters giving you door dings.

Hell yea, I love it!

Would hard park the shit out of that next to a dozen Teslas on Microsoft main campus (old school style, bldg 8!) And just sit there as chicks numbers are thrown at me from the transit center by the soccer field/helipad!
