DIY Hard Top Ceiling Hoist - My Version

My version. Hooks are standard flat hooks with about 1/2” cut off of them. I thought I would need a third point in the front, but I did not end up using it. I plan on shortening the whole set up eventually.

Is this a cargo strap with the flat hook attached? I've been looking for this in this length for a while. I just looked at that harbor freight site and didn't see this.

I double checked. It was actually Amazon. Us cargo control is the brand.

I have seen the 2” wide short straps but can’t find 4” wide ones. Figured 4” would distribute the load a little better. And I figured the j bends would need to be opened up a bit. Appears yours is working out fine though.

These tops are really light. Just large and awkward.

Check www.customtiedowns.com They did mine, they also have diagrams to show the angle of opening on the hook - the reason I went with the ones I did was they were the largest opening - turns out they needed to be opened more and in order to do that I had to find someone willing to use their 20 ton press on them.

Oh then you are good to go - now you just need to decide how you want your hoist straps made. They are pretty good with options. sling strap on one end or various metal connectors etc. Pick your straps and colors and flat hook style and they will make it. I originally wanted to glue some neoprene or thin high density foam to the inside of the hooks but no matter what I tried (even after the opening up of them) they always seemed to get stuck in the opening on the roof. So I bagged that idea and went with nothing on the hooks.

Is that just for the RTT or can you lift the MIC top as well?

If you look at Lange Originals who make the hard top hoists for Jeeps, this is how they designed their Bronco hardtop hoist (using those attachment points with flat hooks).
